Beer Scoring:
How about this for an idea; try scoring your beers! Yep, as
well as acting as a 'memo to self' on the beers you have
discovered and enjoyed you can pass on your findings to
others and let them come and thank you for finding the new
next best thing.
Until last year in the Liverpool branch we have used a 10
point scoring system. There is still much debate on the
relative merits of the scoring methods, but in view of the
continued success of the National Beer Scoring System (NBSS),
which scored on a 0-5 scale we decided for consistency
to go to this scoring system for 2008. Of course since
making that decision CAMRA then changed their system to
allow 0.5 increments, making it closer to our scoring
again (you couldn’t make it up; and we
haven’t).

and the halves? Well they sit inbetween (can’t see
anyone scoring 0.5 though (somewhere between undrinkable
and barey drinkable! Would that be barely undrinkable?)).
When
you drink a pint of real ale in a pub please take a few
seconds to record your opinion. This data will be
used to aid selection of pubs in the Good Beer Guide. It is
important that only the best pubs in our area are included,
and these are the pubs that consistently serve a good pint.
This can only be ascertained if several people visit a pub
at different times of the year and submit their
scores.
So go on, do yourself and your branch a favour. Pass on
completed forms or email your records in any format to
John at Surveys. Alternatively put in your scores
via the NBSS website.
